Post Study Work Rights

Graduates from non-EU/EEA countries studying in Germany can extend their residence permit for up to 18 months after completing their studies, allowing them to work in the country. It’s advisable to start job hunting during your final semester or while still at university, as this period begins immediately after finishing your exams. During these 18 months, you’re free to work any job to support yourself, regardless of its relation to your field of study. To apply for the extension, you’ll need to submit documents including your personal ID, passport, proof of graduation from a German university, financial resources, and health insurance. Once you have the extended permit, you can focus on finding employment related to your studies within the 18-month period, while also taking up other work to sustain yourself financially.
